What You'll Learn
This course takes you from first principles through to certification-readiness in two focused days. No prior experience in business continuity is required.
By the end of the programme, you will:
- Understand what Business Continuity Management is, why it matters, and how ISO 22301 provides the framework to implement it
- Know the key components of a BCMS — including policy, scope, business impact analysis, continuity strategies, and continual improvement
- Understand the role of top management in a BCMS, including commitment, communication and management review
- Be familiar with internal audit processes and how they support BCMS compliance
- Be able to contribute to or support a Business Continuity programme in your organisation
- Hold a PECB-recognised certification credential upon passing the exam
Course Outline
Day 1 Introduction to Business Continuity Management and ISO 22301
- Overview of business continuity: key concepts, terminology and the business case for BCM
- Introduction to ISO 22301: scope, structure and how it relates to other management system standards
- Understanding your organisation’s context: internal and external issues, interested parties
- Leadership and commitment: the role of top management in a BCMS
- BCMS policy: what it covers and how it is applied
- Planning: risk assessment, business impact analysis (BIA) and business continuity objectives
- Support requirements: resources, competence, awareness, communication and documentation
Day 2 BCMS Implementation and Certification Exam
- Business continuity strategies and solutions: how to identify and select appropriate responses
- Business continuity plans: structure, content and activation procedures
- Exercising and testing your BCMS: types of exercises and how to evaluate outcomes
- Performance evaluation: monitoring, internal audits, management review and continual improvement
- Certification preparation: understanding the PECB exam format
- Certification exam: 1-hour written exam (included in course fee)
